Forest therapy at NUHR Medical Center

6500 m2 to pause and recharge your batteries.

Pure air flows into the lungs. Feet tread on velvety moss. The sun shimmers through the thicket. And it smells of earth and new beginnings. This is exactly the scenery that awaits therapy and hotel guests at the NUHR Medical Center. A sea of green shades stretches across an area of 6,500 m2. Our NUHR Forest. It is a haven for body and soul. A new favorite place. And the best place for our forest therapy.

The forest as a healing experiential space

During NUHR forest therapy, you will experience first-hand the health-promoting aspects of the forest on body and psyche, which have been proven by numerous studies. In the process, the forest is used as a healing experiential space. Our experts not only motivate you to engage in physical activities, but also promote multi-sensory experiences. During a stay in the NUHR forest, you as a person are thus addressed with all your senses. In addition, the forest climate generally brings many positive aspects:

  • The pure air as well as fewer pollutants relieve the respiratory tract and skin and have a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels.
  • The high humidity is good for the respiratory tract.
  • Low air temperatures increase physical performance and harden the body.
  • Special lighting conditions can improve mood and convey a sense of security.
  • Plants, trees, wood, earth as well as the forest floor and the overall aesthetics of the forest have a positive effect on the psyche.

Forest therapy in Lower Austria

Forest therapy with us in Lower Austria is thus much more than conventional forest bathing. It can complement classical, active or verbal forms of therapy and strengthen health. Basically, it is recommended for everyone - but especially people ...

  • with psychological and psychosomatic illnesses
  • in rehabilitation, e.g. after accidents or orthopedic surgery
  • with chronic pain
  • late effects of neurological diseases

Forest therapy, and especially active outdoor exercise, is also suitable for general health care. It can be used to counteract poor posture and back pain, as well as other potential risk factors such as obesity, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, and so on. In addition, special exercises or mindfulness training can help people get back in touch with nature and thus with themselves. After all, alienation from nature and the loss of a universal sense of belonging can also stress people or make them ill.

For children and adolescents in difficult situations or with behavioral problems, forest therapy can be supportive in coping and serve an educational purpose. At the same time, it can also be used preventively to train individual movement sequences and prevent posture problems, mental or physical illnesses. It also helps to discover the joy of movement in the great outdoors.

Forest for body and soul

Our NUHR forest in Senftenberg in Lower Austria is located on a southern slope that has been used for forestry for decades. To the north and east, extensive areas border the grove; to the west, terraces of the former wine cultivation can still be recognized.

The area is freely accessible from April to October, the concept was developed in close cooperation with the market town of Senftenberg. The NUHR forest can thus be used by therapy and hotel guests as well as by the population and visitors of Senftenberg. For the NUHR forest therapy, various paths and stations were built in it so that therapy and hotel guests can enjoy a longer stay and feel the positive effect in the long term.

The ingenious routing and various areas and squares thus provide variety and at the same time the necessary tranquility. These include:

  • Main path: running parallel to the slope, the main path includes a sensory path, stones, balance woods and other elements that train the sense of balance as well as sensory perception.
  • Steppedpath: Different sets of steps are part of this path, which is designed to improve footing.
  • Resting place: At the highest point of the NUHR forest is the resting place. The secluded location and a hammock invite you to pause.
  • Strength place: Various devices can be used at the strength place to strengthen the muscles.
  • Viewing platform: Located at the edge of the forest, therapy and hotel guests have an optimal view of the surrounding forest landscape as well as the Senftenberg ruins from the viewing platform.
  • Orchard: Various native woody plants are part of the orchard, which imparts knowledge on the subject of healthy nutrition and local habitats.

The Austrian Waldviertel as an optimal place for forest therapy

In Japan and South Korea, the positive effects of the forest have long been appreciated - there, "Shinrin-yoku", forest bathing, has a long tradition as a therapy. But also the Lower Austrian Waldviertel offers itself for forest therapies virtually. Here, the forest has not only always been considered a defining element and identification feature, but is also the region's namesake. After all, it is one of the most important resources and has a high ecological and economic value.

The forest therefore plays a key role and also harbors great health-promoting potential, which we make use of in Senftenberg. Our NUHR Forest thus not only optimally complements the NUHR Medical Center, but also integrates therapeutic measures into the essential ecosystem of the forest. Benefit from the NUHR forest therapy and draw new energy!
